From Kid to Tween to Teen: Camp Pontiac changes with campers as they grow and mature

Campers who start with us in elementary school get to try everything Pontiac has to offer with approximately half of their program elective-based; the other half centers on incorporating activities they perhaps never even knew existed! As campers continue with us through middle and high school, they never get bored as they get to choose more and more of what they love in customizing their program to their personal interests.

And best of all, our oldest campers divisions go on week-and-a-half long "mini-teen tours" while still being able to enjoy their favorite Pontiac activities the rest of the summer. Our campers explore all of these options within our co-ed hybrid model: Daily activities are separated by gender but we come together for plenty of camp-wide events such as talent shows and Humanitarian Awards in our state-of-the-art facilities. Camp Pontiac exists on a single campus but the Girls Side of camp and the Boys Side of camp each have their own cabins, athletic fields, swimming pools, health centers, and more.

Rookie Experience & Tours

Seeing is believing! The best way for you to get a feel for Camp Pontiac is to visit us and meet with our staff. The best experience for parents and campers alike is to partake in our Rookie Experience. Rookies participate in a full camp day of activities, sports, meals, and even a camp bonfire! While future campers are enjoying everything Pontiac has to offer, parents will be on their own tour of the facilities getting questions answered as they explore with a Camp Pontiac Director.

Camp Pontiac: A Family Legacy

The Etra family have owned Camp Pontiac since 1995 and it has grown to be the amazing summer home for so many! This is made possible only with the help of our wonderful all-adult leadership team, many of whom have been involved with Pontiac since its inception. It all starts at the top with our directors: the Etra brothers and their children. As the owners of Pontiac, they are not only invested in your child’s experiences but in their physical and mental health, too!

Ricky & Kenny Etra are not only practicing physicians, they also have more than 25 years experience as camp doctors! As practicing ear, nose, and throat physicians for over 40 years, your child couldn’t be in better hands for the summer. Ricky and Kenny got involved with summer camps as camp physicians, and their love for camp inspired their takeover of Pontiac. Since day one, safety and wellness has been the top priority at Pontiac with our state-of-the-art medical facilities and top-notch medical team. We have a team of doctors, nurses, physician’s assistants, and social workers on our in-camp staff as well as pharmacies, triage centers, and sophisticated outpatient and inpatient facilities all within a half hour of camp.

Well-Rounded Programming Where all Interests Are Celebrated

Camp Pontiac has an incredible amount of activities to choose from. We are as much a home to athletes as we are to chefs, sailors, and engineers! With our unique programming, campers can choose to focus on an array interests, while they also try new hobbies like rocket-building! No matter your passions or background, Pontiac has got you covered for an engaging summer!

T&C awards its own set of merit badges to camps of distinction across the country.

Camp Pontiac is proud to have been named by the prestigious Town & Country Magazine as the number one camp in America to deal with medical necessities, dietary restrictions, food allergies, and other medical issues all the way back in 2013! Camp Pontiac is proud to have been a pioneer in being a nut free and seed-free environment, and we have maintained these exceptional standards for the last decade.

Private Lessons and Leagues

We know sometimes children have a certain sport they’d like to maximize practicing throughout the summer. Camp Pontiac offers private lessons to provide campers with a one-on-one experience to improve their skills. Our awarded coaches have expertise in their specific fields to ensure your children get exposed to the right techniques. We also offer athletic leagues to allow campers to play competitive sports games internally and with other camps in the nearby area. Many campers take advantage of athletics, such as basketball and gymnastics lessons, at Camp Pontiac.

Modern Facilities

Home isn’t a place, it’s a feeling! Here at Camp Pontiac, we have mastered the blend of comfort and safety with modern amenities in all of our facilities. We strive to constantly update and upgrade these facilities to make our campers as comfortable as possible. Air conditioning, personal storage, and private showers are just some of our cabin amenities. All bunks are spacious, but can vary in size. Our small cabins have approximately twelve campers and five live-in counselors while our larger double-size cabins have approximately twenty campers and seven live-in counselors. All campers have their own bed which allows campers to have their own space and feel more comfortable.

Food, Nutrition, & Special Diets

Pontiac was one of the first summer camps to go entirely nut-free and seed-free. With physicians as our directors, we are at the forefront of medical needs in camps and are constantly updating our facilities to reflect this. We work with an in-house nutritionist to guarantee campers get healthy and delicious meals that cater to specific needs like gluten-free or vegetarian options.

Alumni Network

Pontiac has been the foundation for so many friendships and relationships because campers that spend summers here, spend a lifetime with their memories! Pontiac campers stay connected to Pontiac and to each other for years to come. These connections are possible through social media channels, alumni events, and email newsletters. Be sure to check out Camp Pontiac’s website, Instagram, and Facebook pages to see a glimpse into our camp family.
