Our staff is made up of over 200 in-bunk counselors, 60 support staff and 75 adult professionals who oversee all aspects of camp. These include each camper age group, program specialties, health care and emotional support (spearheaded by our Camper Awareness Team). Three to four doctors and 10 nurses on camp premises and two wellness centers located on the property comprise the backbone of our cutting-edge health and wellness program.
The Etra Family has owned Camp Pontiac since 1995. Ricky & Kenny Etra are board-certified physicians and have been doctors for over 40 years. In addition, their children, Michael, Lindsay, and Matthew, are intimately involved in the camp’s operations. As parents and grandparents, they understand the importance of creating a safe, nurturing, and exciting environment for all the campers.
Backing Camp Pontiac's leadership team is our multi-layered senior staff made up of teachers, parents, guidance counselors, coaches, and medical professionals who fill our most vital summer camp roles including Group Leaders and Program Heads.
All staff - counselors, support staff, and senior staff alike - undergo extensive background checks and a rigorous nine-day onsite pre-camper arrival orientation. Most of our senior staff return to Camp Pontiac and are committed to the staff continuity that helps make our campers so successful. We take pride in our camper alumni who return to become counselors themselves, as their Camp Pontiac experience comes full circle.

Who are the GOBS?
Besides our camp moms, group leaders, and bunk counselors we have created a very special position at Camp Pontiac called GOBS. The Girls on Boys Side (GOBS) provide a unique and invaluable element to our youngest boys' summer camp experience. While they reside on Girls Side, GOBS spend their days and evenings on the Boys Side of camp as general counselors. Our dedicated group of female counselors immerse themselves in the daily lives of our boy campers as their summertime big sisters. Their commitment extends beyond conventional expectations, as they provide an exceptional level of care and attention. Besides the routine tasks of applying sunblock and ensuring proper hygiene, the GOBS create an atmosphere that is supportive, caring and fun!
Our GOBS are instrumental in the development of our boys and their influence extends beyond the physical well-being of our campers. GOBS provide life skills and guidance, act as role models and promote a sense of camaraderie. From reading bedtime stories to the comforting presence they provide, the GOBS play a pivotal role in creating positive and enduring memories for our youngest campers, encouraging a profound sense of belonging that extends throughout their camp journey.
