What to Expect at Camp Pontiac’s New Camper Day
Choosing a summer camp is a big decision—for kids and parents. It’s exciting, but it can also feel a little overwhelming. At Camp Pontiac, we get it. That’s why we hostNew Camper Day—a fun and welcoming experience where new campers and their families can explore our campus, meet our staff, and get a real feel for summer life at Pontiac.
This special day is all about creating familiarity, building excitement, and easing the transition into one of the best summer camps in the Northeast.
What Happens on New Camper Day?
New Camper Day is filled with fun and informative activities designed to introduce your family to Camp Pontiac. Here’s what to expect during this memorable day:
Guided Tours: Explore key areas of camp – from the bunks and dining hall to the lake and sports fields. You’ll get a feel for where your child will sleep, play, and eat, all while picturing the adventures to come.
Meet-and-Greets: New campers meet their future bunkmates and counselors in person. Our friendly staff (from group leaders to activity specialists) are on hand to say hello, answer questions, and share their camp spirit.
Parent Orientation:Parents aren’t left out – while the kids play, you’ll join camp directors and head counselors for a relaxed orientation session. This is your chance to learn tips for preparing for camp, hear about daily routines and safety measures, and ask any questions on your mind. You’ll come away feeling as confident as your camper.

Children’s Summer Activities: Campers dive into a sample of summer camp activities. Whether it’s trying a mini soccer scrimmage, creating an arts & crafts project, or teaming up for a fun scavenger hunt, these activities get kids laughing and bonding quickly.
BBQ Lunch & Ice Cream Social:To cap off the day, everyone comes together for a delicious barbecue lunch (a Camp Pontiac tradition) and a visit to our Ice Cream Shoppe. Sharing a meal gives new campers and parents a true taste of our camp community – the laughter, the stories, and the warm feeling that we’re all family here.
