Cooking at Camp Pontiac
The Pontiac cooking summer camp program has emerged as one of the most enjoyable activities at camp. It is housed in our beautiful state-of-the-art kitchen built in 2016 and managed by our own in-house chef Karen Etra. With the help of three assistant chefs, campers of every age have the opportunity to learn about the culinary arts. We teach our campers how to prepare a variety of dishes including appetizers and desserts. Eventually, our campers cook full meals inspired by international cuisines.
Older campers have access to longer cooking sessions and prepare an evening meal together that they enjoy as a group out on the backyard deck. At the more advanced level, campers use their culinary flair to create signature dishes. During our end-of-camp "Color War", campers put their skills to the test in our annual Chopped Challenge.
Our second cooking center is a more intimate learning environment that allows for easy, small group instruction. This part of the program centers on baking.
Our campers love to create:
-
- international cuisines like Mexican, Asian, Italian, and more
- pizza
- s’mores pie
- monkey bread
- cupcakes
- mud pie
- signature dishes
- appetizers
- desserts
